When was the last time you did something nice for yourself? Like REALLY nice?
I have been trying to get better at this, and let me tell you – I have been LOVING the process! I sat down with author, speaker, and thought leader Lisa Mohr, for her YouTube channel and we chatted about exactly this! She was kind enough to share the copy of the video for my channel, too, so here it is for your viewing pleasure! (And here’s the link to it on her channel, in case you’d like to give her a view or subscribe)!
Like we mentioned in the video, the costs of not taking care of yourself and celebrating your accomplishments are high and actually affect your family – exactly the opposite of what you are trying to accomplish by pushing yourself so hard!

So what can you do?
Making time for yourself, and spending time and money on making sure that you get proper rest, fuel your body with nutritious foods, and get your sweat on are extremely important! If you need help, contact me! The next challenge group I am hosting is starting June 29th (Monday) and I will accept new members for a whole week following. If you’re seeing this after that, contact me and I can tell you when the next one starts!
If you’re already on top of the self-care game as far as fitness & nutrition are concerned, then you might be driven, like me, and neglect celebrating your accomplishments…
Well, one thing that’s great is RETAIL THERAPY!
Here’s what I treated myself with for completing round one of the 21-Day Fix Extreme:
The Ross by our house is moving, so they are having great clearance sales, which is PERFECT because I am trying to brighten up my wardrobe, since I wore so many dark & neutral colors living in the Midwest that seem weird in Sunny California!
You could also do something fun! Tommy and I wanted to celebrate finishing the workout & nutrition program together, so this past weekend, we went to see Book of Mormon in San Francisco, and scored front row orchestra seats! I am sure you can find something fun and relaxing to do – just promise not to multi-task and enjoy it FULLY!
If Broadway isn’t in your budget or you don’t have a ton of time, how about a nice face mask?
Yesterday, which was fewer than two weeks after I recorded the above video, I was feeling sluggish and having a tough time getting myself together to do work! I had motivation, but no energy. So I finally kinda just said “F it, I will just relax a bit!” and decided to try a new mud mask.
It was organic, amazing and only about $12 for what I am pretty sure is a lifetime supply, by the way! I’m sure most of us have some sort of beauty masque treatment in a cupboard we wanted to use and neglected, right?
You’d think I would be better at following my own advice (i.e., I should have just done this in the morning), but it was amazing how much energy I felt after taking about 20 minutes for myself without feeling guilty for not getting anything done. The two hours between my mask and Tommy getting home were about ten times more productive than the whole day before. Why didn’t I do it sooner?
One thing that DID warm my heart, though, was that my little instagram post with the face mask (image above) inspired TWO gorgeous ladies I know to take some time for themselves!
Nicole, on the left, is an amazing hairstylist and makeup artist, and the owner of My Hair Trip Salon, an organic salon in Denver! She is also a mom of an adorable little boy, and has another baby on the way!
Tiffany, on the right, is another amazing makeup artist in Milwaukee that I knew primarily from my party girl days!
I am so happy that my post encouraged them to take a couple minutes for themselves, and so happy that they shared it with me on Instagram! Hopefully, they inspired even more people and created a ripple effect of relaxation!
And if you aren’t into giving yourself a facial mask, and want something 100% free, try meditation! I just listened to this podcast yesterday about meditation for people who aren’t 100% into it, and I think it makes some GREAT points!
