More and more, I am unpleasantly surprised by what I find when I read labels.
Hence, I decided that my first nutrition episode of Mandie.tv should be about a crazy ingredient I found in shredded cheese – CORN!
I am really impressed with the reaction I have seen so far. Of course my cheesehead friends are all excited for an excuse to buy cheese, but I have had some friends tell me they looked at labels and found some pretty surprising things! Here is an example of a label that we noticed at a friend’s house on New Year’s Eve that was pretty questionable!
One would think that a bottle of Extra Virgin Olive Oil would be fine, right? I mean, what else could possibly be in it? Let’s take a closer look!
Sooo… “Contains 20% olive oil?” And that light-colored print that says “Mediterranean blend Italian Sunflower &…” Not cute, Violi! That is shady business! How can you call it olive oil if most of it is something else?!
If anything, I hope these little tricky things have made you open your eyes and take a closer look at what’s in what you’re eating, because it might not be what you think it is!

Grab something nearby that has ingredients (that is often hard to do in our house, because most of what we eat doesn’t have labels), and look at the list. Is there anything that surprises you? Anything unfamiliar? If so, look it up!
xoxo,
Mandie
