As many of you already know, thanks to our facebook video, Tommy and I got engaged on Good Friday!
Here’s the video that tells the story, from facebook live: Brice to meet you
And if for some reason this doesn’t show up for you, I uploaded it to YouTube, too!
During the video, we mention a few things that would probably be helped by a visual!
To kick it off…
First of all, I had a FEELING that he was going to propose that weekend. There were several hints that I saw, several that I gave him to make him think I knew, and several that happened and went right over my head!
One of these from the last possibility was when I treated myself to a mani-pedi at the very beginning of the weekend Staycation… I wanted to have my nails and toenails painted white, but ended up putting up a facebook poll between these two colors:
And it’s the polish on the right that won! When Tommy saw my nails, he thought “she knows” because it matched my ring PERFECTLY!
Anyway, in the video, we chat about an original area he was considering proposing that had a few kids goofing around and hunting crabs. Here’s the picture we took there, while the ring was burning a hole in his pocket!
The buttcrack kids were just off to our right! 😂
We also talk about a minute-long selfie video we took JUST BEFORE the proposal. You can see that here!
As you can see, we were right on top of the world and in a beautiful spot! Do I seem nervous after breaking a few rules? I was thinking “I hope we don’t get arrested… and it seems like he might propose!”
So, Tommy proposed right in this location, where “we sat down for a second to rest his ankle!” Right here:
Right after, we sat and talked, and kissed, and sort of blacked out and don’t really remember it all exactly, but that’s ok! When we regained consciousness (haha), we figured we needed to take a picture. How can you tell someone’s nervously trying to make sure at least one photo is perfect?
Haha, we took just a few! Here’s a couple of our favorites! <3
Right after this, we walked back over, past the tourists, to the car, where he gave me a card he had written out before just in case we weren’t able to perfectly remember the moments immediately before and/or after the proposal. Smart man he is! I think I’ll marry him! 😜
Funny thing – this is what was playing when I first started reading the card, on the radio! I turned it off once I realized, as much as I love the song and Pretty Woman! 😜
After I read the card and cried and kissed my brand new fiance, we went for lunch somewhere a co-worker suggested in Sausalito. Here are a couple pictures from that! They gave us free champagne since we were just engaged!
As you can see, I started a weird phase of putting my hand on Tommy’s chest, regardless of how awkward it was, just to show off the ring! 😜
As we made our way across the Golden Gate Bridge back to San Francisco, I facetimed my parents and grandparents to tell them the news, even though Tommy had called the day prior to ask for my hand! Then I sent this video via text to a few friends!
💜 Tommy tried to surprise me by setting up a hotel stay for us at the W Hotel in SF (days after I was there to do Anne Fulenwider’s makeup), but he forgot to close his email once and I saw an email from them confirming his reservation – so I didn’t know the date or city, just that he made reservations without telling me for SOMETIME at SOME W hotel! We got there, and they gave us more free champagne (which we have still not drank), and we had to leave immediately!
If you don’t know Tommy well (and I will write a blog eventually with our story and how we met), one very basic thing to know about him is that Basketball was his first true love. In fact, he was a walk-on at Marquette University, which played a role in us meeting!
Well, one reason he chose to propose (haha, that rhymes) when he did was because March was his favorite month because of March Madness… Well, this was the best day ever for him…
Here he is waiting in line outside of the Oracle Arena for our first Warriors Game, watching the Badgers lose in the NCAA Tournament on his phone. All the love, all the basketball, and one of his least favorite teams losing (we are still getting married someday, haha).
Anyway, one of the reasons I suspected that weekend for our engagement was this Warriors game!

One of Tommy’s former teammates, Wes Matthews, is now on the Dallas Mavericks, and they ALMOST beat the Warriors! He got us passes so we could meet up with him after the game, which is always nice! This little hookup is part of why I suspected a proposal that weekend – I thought maybe it’d happen on the jumbo tron! I am so glad that it didn’t – someone else had that happen! Plus, I am eternally grateful for the fact that Tommy wanted to propose right away so that we could celebrate all weekend – especially since the weekend didn’t necessarily turn out as planned!

The next morning, I realized I could download my snapchat stories, so I did! It starts with the aforementioned mani-pedi, and ends (part one) with us driving back to SF over the beautiful Bay Bridge! 💜
After the game, we went back to the hotel and ordered Indian takeout, and went to bed, exhausted!
The next morning, our tourism in our new city continued with some nitro cold brew coffee and tea in the Market district near our hotel!
A stranger walked by Tommy with these before I made it outside and said “breakfast of champions?” and Tommy said “yeah!” and realized after that she probably thought he was double-fisting beers for breakfast! 😂
Next, we FINALLY got on the trolley! This (along with “get engaged”) was on a to-do list two of our dear friends gave us for things to do since we were moving, the day we said goodbye… So we crossed two things off the list that weekend (and before we left, I told Tommy we were going to – referring to the trolley, but also hinting that I knew about the engagement)!
💜 The trolley was so fun! Here are some pics!
After that, we each did our workout – him at the local 24 hour fitness, and me in the hotel room with Beachbody on Demand!
I did not want to take my ring off to work out, but promised our amazing ring designer that I would when I work out – more on that in a future blog post!
After we showered, we headed to La Taqueria, where they serve the best burritos we’ve ever had, and to a local bakery. I had a burrito, and Tommy tried a couple tacos!
Next, we went on a little tour of some of the places Tommy ALMOST proposed…
Like the Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park!
And the sea cliffs by the Sutro Baths!
I promise you, my pictures do NOT do it justice!
Next, we hurried back to the neighboring hotel, the Marriott, to head to “The View,” so we could see the sunset!
There’s a better, sunset-ier picture on one of our phones somewhere… Gorgeous view!
It was nearing the end of our time at the View (where, ironically enough, we ran into the guy who cut Tommy’s hair the day prior) when Tommy started acting a little funny!
We got back on the cable car and headed toward Buena Vista, which is one of our favorite touristy spots in SF – it’s the place where the first Irish Coffee was made in America! But first, sushi!
Our plan was to get sushi, get an Irish coffee (hot chocolate for me), and then meet up with Tommy’s cousin and a couple of our friends to celebrate… But Tommy barely ate any sushi because he wasn’t feeling well (which meant I ate it all, which wasn’t a problem)! He even had to leave the restaurant early, and we called a Lyft instead of taking the cable car back to the hotel. We had to pull over, so he could reverse eat, which he would end up doing all night!
Here’s the next round of snaps from my snapchat story… Don’t worry, I didn’t include anything gross!
Poor Tommy! I read in bed while he was sick. It was definitely not how I envisioned our engagement weekend ending!
The next morning, I made a Whole Foods run for him and got things he could tolerate and that would help him feel better. We rested a bit and got late check out, and then went to a restaurant that we’ve been wanting to go to for a long time – Brenda’s French Soul Food! It is DEFINITELY a fave of mine now!
I got the shrimp & grits, since that is pretty much my favorite meal, and Tommy got the croque monsieur with the biscuit – pretty easy on the tummy! I ended up finishing that, too, when we got home, after more resting.
Tommy still didn’t feel well late that Easter Sunday, so he ended up calling in sick to work on Monday. We went to check out Tootsie’s at Stanford (delicious food) and then briefly to the mall at Stanford. As you can see in the next (final) snapchat story, there was bee activity at Stanford mall, AND the security guard at the Stanford Mall was A ROBOT. WHAT!?
We went home after that, and there was more napping, and I worked out… Then we went to a place near our house and got a charcoal lemonade (make sure to check out in that snap my proposal wound from going around the fence!) and an acai bowl – I love those things! After that – redbox and bed… And then normal life began as an engaged couple. Now, onto wedding planning!
Although I was obviously super sad that Tommy got sick, a bonus was getting to spend relaxing quality time with him for an extra day. And now – every single time I or we are in SF, it feels like we are continuing to celebrate our engagement!
I will of course be continuing to write blogs about motivation, fitness, nutrition, personal development, as well as sharing my modeling and makeup artistry work, but I plan to include wedding stuff, too, so stay tuned! Make sure you subscribe, too, so you don’t miss out on the process! 😜
