When was the last time you treated yourself? Despite the fact that I am a hand model, I often neglect my nails (until I know I have a job coming up), so this past Saturday, I treated myself to a fun manicure at the Nail Art by Queenie Pop Up At Orly Color Labs Los Angeles, and if you’re in Los Angeles, I couldn’t recommend either part of the experience more!
I met Queenie at a super fun shoot for Tastemade, where I was a hand model for a shoot they did around nail art! Here’s the final product!

Despite a lot of hand modeling experience, this was among the most challenging jobs I’ve done, because the camera was so close, meaning that every tiny movement was huge on the screen! It was tough keeping my nails centered AND in an ideal place for Queenie to be able to see as she worked her magic!
We obviously survived and had a ton of fun, and have since stay in touch via instagram, cheering each other on as we navigate the beauty industry in LA. A while back, she reached out to me, excited that she was going to have an event that she’d love me to come to! I told her that if I could make it, I would come for sure, and I anxiously awaited details. Finally, she sent me a flier!
I had seen Orly Color Labs on Queenie‘s instagram story, and was super excited to check it out, and of course wanted to support Queenie! As I am sure you’d imagine, Orly Color Labs is absolutely adorable, inside and out!
Here’s a little video of one of their walls, that shows a history of the brand!
How fun is it that the founder’s name is Mr. Pink?!
Of course, I treated myself to another wonderful manicure by Queenie…

But I also wanted to check out the rest of the fun that Orly Color Labs had to offer!
One of the coolest things is that you can actually create your own custom nail polish color! You use an iPad and it asks you questions about your inspiration for the main color, its finish, etc. and then what you want to name it! Here’s how it goes:
Once you’ve completed that, once you wait your turn, you’ll be called up to the color bar where a color expert mixes it all for you!
Here’s my color being mixed up!
And here’s the shimmer being put in!
Finally, she ever-so-carefully poured my new color into the bottle…

And then she put a label on it with my color’s name, and put it in a cute bag! Would you like to see what the final outcome looks like next time I paint my nails? Comment below!
The fun didn’t end there… Queenie had some great sponsors who gave gifts (some awesome hand lotion and hand scrub, as well as cuticle oil) and there were some other great vendors there! I guess I was too early for the wine vendor (😭), but I did create a custom-scented cuticle oil from BathBar and took a peek at Cholas & Chulas makeup!
If you’re ever in Los Angeles and need a manicure, I can’t recommend Queenie enough, both from an “it’s fun to spend time with her” standpoint, and from her second-to-none artistry! Contact her via instagram for details!
And if you’re looking for a fun experience for a birthday party or bridal shower, or just something fun to do, I recommend checking out the Orly Color Labs experience, ESPECIALLY since their polishes are 12-free (which means they don’t have creepy ingredients in them – read more here in this article I wrote when I was writing for Evie Magazine!). Queenie says they also donate portions of their proceeds to charity, and you KNOW I love that!
Here’s my cute manicure, by the way!
You can see more on my instagram story highlight!
xoxo,
Mandie
