Have you ever tried hemp underwear? My introduction to hemp, or at least the first I remember it, was a Hempz lotion at the tanning salon I went to in high school. Yep, I am guilty of using tanning beds in the past! I clearly remember the bottle of lotion with the “pot leaf” on it, and thinking it was kind of scandalous. “Should this lotion even be legal?” I wondered! Obviously, my knowledge and relationship to hemp has changed over time, which is why I was really excited when WAMA Hemp Underwear reached out and offered to let me try a few things!
If you have been following me for a while, or know me personally, you know that sustainability and the environment is a cause that’s very important to me (and here are some other blogs that I wrote about things that you can do to help reduce your carbon footprint)!
Now that I’m a mom, I am even more concerned about making the right choices. I want to make sure that the world is still a beautiful place for our boy Charlo to grow up in, and I would be lying if I said that I didn’t worry consistently about climate change. Outside of corporations that contribute the most damage to our earth, a huge source of waste and pollution is that of fast fashion and clothing waste. That is why I have been looking further into alternatives, whether that is actually an sustainably produced new clothing, or buying things secondhand.
I am still working on figuring out the best choices to make in that department, but it seems like the consensus is that if you can afford ethically and sustainably-produced new items, it is best to do that, and leaving secondhand for those who truly need it and can’t afford to purchase high-quality and consciously manufactured clothing. I love the idea of voting with your dollars, so paying a little extra for a high-quality item that supports the things I believe in is right up my alley! I don’t think I’ll give up my ThredUp and Poshmark habits, because it’s fun (and thrift stores in person on occasion), but it seems like a good plan overall!
For these reasons, I was pretty excited when WAMA contacted me and offered to send some goodies for my review! On their site, I learned that hemp is naturally anti-bacterial and has anti-odor properties, which are great qualities for underwear! I also learned that hemp gets softer with every wash, which sounds comfy and cozy!
Here’s some more info I found about hemp on this site:
I chose a thong, a triangle bra that seemed breastfeeding-friendly, and a hipster short to try, all in size medium… And in the spirit of my previous post about body positivity in social media, I thought I’d do a little shoot and show some unedited images of me in the garments, in case it helps you decide!
Here are some of the shots:
I loved that the package came in an “eco-enclose” envelope made with 100% recycled poly material – showing that sustainability is an important part of the whole operation!
As you can see, the items fit well, and were comfortable!
So far, I’ve pretty much only worn them for pictures (and a few hours after), but will come back and update once I’ve tested the hemp underwear for all day wear and give a full WAMA Hemp Underwear review! That way, you can get an even better idea if you want to try them for yourself. I will say that the top is definitely breastfeeding-friendly, and that the hipster fit quite well for the hours I had them on!
And if you do, head over to their site* and use “MANDIE10” to save 10% on your order!

P.S. These underwear were sent to me in exchange for a couple posts on instagram, but my views are my own!
*I’ve since applied and been accepted for an affiliate link, which means you get the same deal, but I get a percentage of the sale as a “thank you” for recommending the product. Win-win for both of us!
